Council-approved IQP inspections for Building Warrant of Fitness compliance. Serving government, health, and legal buildings across Canterbury.
Request an InspectionCanterbury IQP Services is led by Brent Philip, a qualified and Council-registered Independent Qualified Person (IQP) specialising in access control system inspection and certification.
We partner with building owners and managers to ensure access-controlled doors and security systems meet all requirements under the New Zealand Building Code — protecting both your asset and the people inside it.
Our customers span government departments, healthcare facilities, and legal practices — organisations where secure, compliant access is non-negotiable.
Council consent is required for all access control installations, and whenever a door is added to an existing system.
Under the New Zealand Building Code, every access-controlled system must be tested by a registered IQP at least every 12 months as part of your Building Warrant of Fitness (BWoF).
Failure to comply can invalidate your BWoF and expose your organisation to liability.

Mandatory 12-monthly testing of all access-controlled doors as required by the Building Code for your Building Warrant of Fitness.
We use our Docket Book reporting system to provide a thorough, traceable record of every inspection — essential for BWoF documentation.
Council consent is required before installing any access control system or adding a door to an existing system. We guide you through the process.
Ensuring your access control system works correctly with all integrated building systems for full compliance and emergency safety.
A systematic, thorough inspection across eight key areas ensures every aspect of your access control system is verified and documented.
Authorised credentials (keycard, fob, PIN, or biometric) are tested to confirm the reader correctly grants and denies access.
Electric strikes and magnetic locks are verified to release on access grant and to relock automatically after the door closes.
Door contact sensors are tested for correct detection of open, closed, and forced-open states.
Exit buttons and motion sensors inside the secured area are tested to confirm safe egress at all times.
Events including door-held-open and forced entry are simulated to verify alarms and software notifications trigger correctly.
Power-loss scenarios are tested via resettable emergency break-glass devices to ensure fail-safe and fail-secure behaviour is correct.
Interaction with CCTV and fire alarm systems (emergency door-unlock) is verified.
All events are checked in system logs. Results and any faults are documented in the written inspection report.
We work with government agencies, health providers, and legal firms across Canterbury — organisations where access security and compliance are paramount.
